Description

Donepezil

Donepezil, a hexa-oxypyridine oxide, is a second-generation specific reversible central acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor with little effect on peripheral AChE. By inhibiting AChE activity, this product slows down the breakdown of acetylcholine (ACh) in the synaptic cleft, thereby increasing the content of ACh and improving the cognitive function of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The strength of inhibiting acetylcholinesterase activity is 570 times higher than that of butyrylcholinesterase, and it has high selectivity. Oral administration of 10 mg/kg can inhibit the cholinesterase in the brain in a dose-dependent manner.
